Making work with eMMC interposer slightly more convenient

In one of the previous posts I have described eMMC interposer and how it can help with modifications of the device firmware without having to constantly de-solder and re-solder eMMC. I wanted to take it a step further and extend access to replacement of eMMC and access to UART to outside of the device, so that it can be operated with case fully assembled without the risk of cutting the operator with sharp edges of heatsink. Here is the result:

Gerber files as well as complete PCBs are available from OSHPark

  1. Hi man,

I'm also trying to root my BGW320. Any hint on the TTL serial console access? I'm able to load the boot up process but it won't allow me to input anything. Thanks for your help.

    1. Onboard UART is blocked in stock firmware. You need to root the BGW first to unblock UART in firmware. I've published a hardware method with BGA rework. There is also PL2303 BIST mode that may be worth exploiting, but without a copy of firmware from Internet or from flash you would not get far.
